Cosmos seeds should be sown in New Zealand during spring, once frost risks have passed. Warmer regions can sow seeds as early as September, while cooler areas benefit from waiting until October or November to sow. Cosmos grows best when sown in trays into warm, well-draining soil or mix. Transplant young seedlings to a sunny location to promote vibrant blooms and healthy growth. Kings Seeds’ high-quality Cosmos seeds make it easy to grow these stunning flowers across New Zealand, creating gardens full of colour and charm.
Cosmos are one of the easiest flowers to grow from seed, making them ideal for gardeners of all levels. For best results sow seeds into a tray and keep in a warm area or on a heat pad with consistent watering. Germination occurs quickly, usually within 5–10 days and seedlings can be transplanted into a sunny location in the garden from around 4 weeks. Depending on the specific variety, plants will flower 60-75 days from planting. These hardy flowers thrive with minimal care, requiring sunlight and occasional fertiliser to produce abundant blooms. Kings Seeds’ premium Cosmos seeds ensure reliable growth, bringing beauty to your garden with minimal effort.
Cosmos thrive in full sun, needing at least six hours of direct light daily. Sunlight supports robust growth, vibrant colours and prolonged flowering periods. These adaptable plants tolerate partial shade but perform best in sunny conditions. Regular watering helps keep them healthy during hot weather. With Kings Seeds’ premium Cosmos seeds, creating sun-filled gardens bursting with colour is easy.
Cosmos are annuals, completing their lifecycle within one season. However, they often self-seed, leading to new plants the following year if conditions are right. Kings Seeds’ high-quality Cosmos seeds make it simple to enjoy these beautiful blooms year after year. Generally, sow your Cosmos seeds from September through to February each year for an abundant and vibrant flower garden.
