Is Beetroot Easy to Grow From Seed?

Growing Beetroot from seed is straightforward, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced gardeners. These seeds thrive in well-drained soil with ample sunlight and regular watering. Ensure you prepare the soil correctly, sow beetroot seeds directly and thin seedlings to avoid overcrowding.

How to Grow Beetroot From Seed in NZ?

To grow Beetroot in New Zealand, start by choosing a sunny spot with loose, well-drained soil. Prepare the soil by adding compost to improve fertility and drainage. Sow seeds directly into the soil either in the ground or in containers, spacing them 10cm within rows and 30cm between rows. Keep the soil consistently moist and weed-free. Refer to the online product descriptions of the different beetroot varieties for specific growing information.

How Many Beets Grow From One Seed?

Beetroot seeds are known as multi-germ or mono-germ. Multi-germ beetroot seeds have several seeds held together in a cluster by the corky seed coat. When sown these will produce multiple seedlings. Mono-germ beetroot is either bred to contain only one seed within the corky seed coat or a multi-germ variety may have been processed to rub and break up the seed cluster into individual seeds which will produce a single seedling. For best results space seed appropriately and thin seedlings to avoid overcrowding, allowing remaining beetroot plants to develop fully.
