Saskatoon Berry Smokey
Description
Highly desirable berry, looking and tasting somewhat like a blueberry. Smokey is a leading commercial variety in Canada and native to North America. The clump forming deciduous shrub is long lived with sweet nutty tasting berries in early summer that can be enjoyed fresh, cooked or even dried like a raisin. Berries are produced in clusters, 3rd year from sowing. Chill seeds for 90 days before sowing to replicate a winter or sow in autumn in trays left outside. Plants will tolerate a wide range of climates and soil types but prefer humus rich free draining soils, detesting wet feet.NB: Please be aware that the seed count listed in the catalogue differs greatly to that online. The actual seed count should be 50 seeds. This reduced seed count became necessary after importation difficulties with this variety made it much more expensive than first thought.
