Hardy Perennial

Kowhai Tree

NZ $3.95

Description

One of the best trees to attract tui and other native birds to your garden.  This is a selected tall strain with prolific yellow flowers and a vigorous bushy habit.  The seed has a hard external skin which keeps moisture out and slows germination so some assistance will hasten the process.  Slightly nick, chip or roughen one end of the seed, then soak overnight in water before sowing in seed raising mix.  Transplant to a larger pot when 5-10cm tall and grow on further until ideally 30cm tall before planting in the garden.  Prefers humus rich well drained soil.

Matures 3 years from Transplant.
