Cape Gooseberry
Description
Husk Tomato / Ground Cherry. The fruit is a juicy little golden ball when ripe, enclosed in a 'Chinese Lantern'. Fruit can be eaten raw or used for old fashioned preserves, and in Mexican recipes requiring Tomatillos. Plants form a rather sprawling bush which benefits from support. Harvest fruit when the calyx or 'Lantern' changes colour to golden brown and acquires a papery texture.
Matures 90 days from transplant.
