Burdock Takinogawa Long
- Botanical Name: Arctium lappa
Highly nutritious root vegetable and one of the most valued herbal medicines. Peeled leaf stalks are parboiled and used as a substitute for Cardoon. Young roots can be peeled and used in salads like radishes whilst older roots are stir-fried, sautéed, roasted or pickled. Mild bittersweet flavour. Rich in vitamins and minerals especially iron and used medicinally as a diuretic and blood cleanser. Grows rapidly with huge rhubarb-type leaves. Well dug soil will result in roots up to 1m long. Easy to grow.
