Tamarillo Lairds Large Red
- Botanical Name: Cyphomandra betacea
Popular subtropical tree for the home garden. Originally from Brazil and related to the ordinary tomato, the red-bronze egg-shaped fruits of this tree have an acid-free sweet taste, producing in 18 months. Use sheltered position to protect from winds and frosts. Heavy mulching will encourage good fruit set. Relatively short-lived so replace every 3 to 4 years.
