Lily Regale

Botanical Name: Lilium regale

New Zealand Christmas Lily. An old perfumed favourite that usually flowers between early December and the New Year in most areas. The tall graceful stems can bear from 1-10 flowers and it is not unusual for two or more growing shoots to fuse together and send up flat shaped stems with up to 100 flowers on top. Sow seeds very shallow barely covering them with quality seed raising mix. Plant out when two or more true leaves have formed and healthy white roots are present. Good drainage is essential and regular well rotted mulch will keep the bulb cool, suppress weeds and provide it with much wanted humous. Protect against aphids and slugs.
